A Fun Morning on the Family Farm: Planting Mums with members of the Mahomet Seymour FFA

Last Saturday, on June 3, 2023, we embarked on the adventure of planting approximately 2,000 mums at our family farm. With the generous assistance of Mahomet Seymour FFA students and advisors, we made great progress in just a couple of hours. The morning was filled with hard work; made enjoyable by laughter, great assistance, and a sense of accomplishment.

In anticipation of streamlining this planting process, in the weeks prior, we laid the black ground plastic, ran the irrigation lines, and installed our irrigation emitters. With each pot having its own irrigation line, the mums receive the necessary hydration immediately after being planted. We filled our mum pots with potting soil, and then arranged them in groups of four on the black ground plastic in rows. This initial prep work allowed us to work efficiently the day of planting and ensured that the mums would receive adequate care after planting.

Even though the morning was extremely hot, our awesome FFA team and family members set to work planting the mum plugs. Equipped with plenty of water and snacks, everyone showcased their hard work attitude and passion for agriculture as we worked until all the mums were planted. Our family extends a big thank you to the FFA team!

We invite everyone to visit our farm this Fall and at Country Fest 2023 to witness the incredible display of mums.
